Questions Dunwoody Homeowners Ask Before They Call
What We Do Not Take On
We work on residential garage doors - the overhead sectional kind on torsion or extension springs. We don't install or service commercial rolling steel doors, loading dock equipment, or gate operators, so if you're calling about a gate arm on a shared driveway in one of the condo clusters off Ashford Dunwoody, that's not us.
We also won't patch a door that's past patching. If a door built in the 1960s or 70s is still running its original track and the panels are rusted through at the bottom, a repair quote on that is often close to half the cost of replacement, and we'll tell you that up front instead of charging you for a Band-Aid. Same goes for openers older than their parts supply - if the circuit board is discontinued, we replace the unit rather than hunt for a part that doesn't exist anymore.
We don't do structural carpentry. If the jamb or header around the door opening is rotted or out of square - which turns up more than you'd think in houses from the 1951-1978 era - that's a carpenter's job first. We'll point it out, but we won't frame it.
Who You Are Dealing With
We're a garage door repair and installation outfit based at 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30346, working the area in and around Dunwoody. Most of the houses we get called to went up between the 1960s and 70s, with the broader range across this part of metro Atlanta running 1951 to 2007 and a median build year around 1978. That matters for the job: those decades mean a lot of original one-piece or early sectional doors on hardware that newer stock doesn't carry.
We also work out to the nearby areas - Doraville, Chamblee, Peachtree Corners, Berkeley Lake, North Druid Hills, North Decatur, Clarkston, Scottdale, Vinings, Druid Hills, Mountain Park, Pine Lake, Avondale Estates, Stone Mountain, Fair Oaks, Belvedere Park, Candler-McAfee, Gresham Park, Panthersville, Redan, Mableton, Holly Springs, Sugar Hill, and Lithonia.
We're not going to tell you a made-up founding story or list off a truck count. What we can tell you is what we work on, where, and what it costs to fix versus replace, honestly, before you commit to either.
Contacting Us
Call (770) 230-5904. That's the number that gets answered, not a routed call center.
Our address is 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30346. If you're nearby and want to drop by rather than call, that's where we are.
When you call, it helps to have a few details ready: roughly how old the house is, whether the door is making noise or just stuck, and whether it's a single or double door. A double door on a house from the 1960s or 70s often has a different spring setup than a newer single, and knowing that before the call saves time on both ends.
We don't run a 24-hour dispatch line with guaranteed arrival windows - we don't have that to offer, so we won't claim it. What we will do is tell you honestly when we can get to it.
What We Actually Do
Torsion and extension spring replacement, cable repair, roller and hinge swaps, track alignment, opener installation and repair, and full door replacement when a repair doesn't make sense anymore. On the older housing stock common through Dunwoody and the surrounding 25 named areas - much of it dating to the 1960s and 70s - a lot of our calls are springs that have simply worn out after years of cycling, or openers whose logic boards have failed.
The climate band here is cold-moderate, which means winter mornings can tighten up a torsion spring enough that a door that worked fine in October suddenly won't lift in January. That's not a dramatic weather event, just metal contracting, and it's one of the more common reasons we get a call in the colder months.
We size jobs to the house in front of us rather than a standard script. A door on a house from the median 1978 build year usually takes different hardware than one in a 2000s-era build, and we carry parts for both rather than one or the other.
Frequently asked questions
My door won't open on cold mornings but works fine later in the day. What's going on?
That's usually a torsion spring that's lost tension and is struggling against the cold. Metal contracts in colder weather, and an older spring that's already marginal can tip over into
